What We Provide
Northern Michigan Regional Hospital Rehabilitation Services provides physical, occupational and speech therapy for children. Our team approach involves the child's family, physician and other health care professionals in developing a treatment plan. Services are provided in a child-friendly outpatient area and at the Charlevoix Community Pool. Therapy teaches children self-help techniques, play mobility, fine and large motor skills and also educates families on ways to assist their children.

Who Can Benefit From Pediatric and Occupational Therapy
Children with physical, emotional or learning problems from injury, illness or birth defects can benefit from physical and/or occupational therapy. Diagnosis types include cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, arthritis, acute trauma, autism, developmental delay or various bone or joint problems.
Treatment Strategies
Following an initial evaluation, a personalized treatment program may include mobility (movement) training, exercises to increase range of motion, strength, balance, coordination and training in everyday activities such as dressing and eating. Therapy may also include the use of splints, casts and specialized equipment. Recommendations for changing the home or play environment will be suggested to enhance a child's success. Parents are encouraged to be directly involved in each session to maximize the rehabilitation process.
