What We Provide
Northern Michigan Regional Hospital Rehabilitation Services offers individual evaluations (with a home program) and a bi-weekly Osteoporosis Exercise and Education Class. Physical and occupational therapy play a key role in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.
Who Can Benefit From Osteoporosis Services
Osteoporosis is a reality of the aging process for many women and men that results in thin, brittle bones. Falls can result in broken bones because of reduced bone density. Wrist, spine and hip breaks are the most common. An osteoporosis service is helpful for anyone diagnosed with osteoporosis and people who are susceptible to losing bone mass.
Treatment Strategies
The Osteoporosis Exercise and Education Class includes sharing of up-to-date information on osteoporosis, low impact aerobics, stretching and strengthening exercises to build bone strength. Participants are assessed and encouraged to exercise at a safe level. Our therapists work with each person to develop good posture and safe movement techniques.
