2008 Community Clothing Drive
Our 2008 Community Clothing Drive was a huge success. Do to your generous support and commitment to our community, many with cancer diagnosis and their loved ones where able to get the clothing they so desperately needed. The Cancer - Onclogy Department at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital is here to support you. Thank you for your help.
Focus on Living
This cancer support group, open to those with any cancer diagnosis and their loved ones, meets every Thursday, 10 - 11 a.m., at the Hospital in the Level 2 patient lounge. The group offers answers about treatments, emotional and spiritual support, the opportunity to share with others and set goals to focus on living. A nurse, social worker, and chaplain are on hand to answer questions.
Grief and the Healing Process: Understanding Our Losses
This six-week program was developed to assist bereaved persons in moving through their stages of grief in the most healing way possible. Any person who has experienced the loss of a loved one, or any person who is a friend of those grieving may attend.
Just for Us
This support group for breast cancer survivors meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. during summer months and at 6 p.m. during winter months in the Community Health Education Center on the Northern Michigan Regional Hospital campus.
Laryngectomy
The Northern Michigan Laryngectomy Group offers support to persons with laryngectomies and their families. Meetings are held in May and October.
Look Good, Feel Better
This one night program teaches techniques to help cancer patients enhance their appearance and self-esteem. A trained volunteer with the American Cancer Society - Emmet County Unit will assist patients with makeup, hairstyles and other cosmetic challenges.
Ostomates
The enterostomal therapy nurse facilitates the local chapter of the United Ostomy Association, a psychological and moral support group for patients with ostomies and their families.
Reach to Recovery
This American Cancer Society program trains volunteers who have had mastectomies to educate women undergoing the procedure and assists with rehabilitation.
